genius loci
Genius Loci, 2021 is a large scale, site-specific, augmented reality installation that plays with the classical Roman concept of Genius Loci (the protective spirit of a place). It originally premiered at an augmented reality takeover of The Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris, FR, but has since toured around the world. The creature inhabits the installation space - floating, relaxing, taunting the audience and talking to itself. We wanted the voice acting + processing to give it a personality that is readily understood by audiences anywhere. At times disgruntled, sometimes adorable, but ever-present — the Genius Loci playfully invokes audience participation as it moves through the space. Visitors are encouraged to interact with it via their smart phones, prompting novel interactions and sounds.
